More and more I’m seeing people self-diagnosing as “neurodivergent,” a word that means something like, “I’m quirky and different and you won’t understand.”
I feel angry when people tell neurodivergent people ‘oh that happens to everyone’ or ‘everyone experiences that’, it goes without saying that neurotypical people experience some of the same stuff - but when you’re struggling to function it feels dismissive.
What it means is bullshit. Add it to the ever-expanding list of terms that people make up to give themselves both a sense of individuality and an excuse for exhibiting anti social behavior. (For more on that, see my book Privileged Victims — 4.5 STAR RATING!)
